Was sad to hear the news this week about the passing of Andy Whitfield. He was an awesome guy and actor and I learnt a lot when working with him. My condolences to his family and friends.

The writers have changed their mind and it turns out my character wont be required for the next series of Spartacus. We assume then that Medicus remains in Capua while Spartacus goes off to fight the Romans with no one to tend to the wounded. I'm disappointed naturally, but roles come and go, that's just how it is. Time to move on now and rethink my plans for 2011.

My return to the Spartacus prequel has been saddened by the news that Andy Whitfield's illness has returned and he is to resume treatment. It's also a timely reminder that there's things in this life far more important than a TV show. Once again Andy, my best wishes are with you at this time. Meanwhile, a regretful Starz has decided to recast the role and the search continues. A decision is due later next month.

Shocked to hear the news this week about Spartacus lead actor Andy Whitfield. A routine medical has revealed that he has non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a form of blood cancer. Thankfully, it's been found early and is treatable. Even so, shooting for the second season of Spartacus is on hold while he has treatment. My thoughts are with you Andy, get well soon.

My commitments with Spartacus look set to clash with Murder Mystery at Spookers. It's getting to a point where I don't know what I'm doing on a day to day basis and may have to bow out. That sucks, I love my work at Spookers and wouldn't be where I am now if it weren't for the experience gained there. I hope some sort of compromise can be reached.

The Warrior's Way (Laundry Warrior) Promo Trailer via Affenheimtheater

11th June 2009
My role as Medicus in Spartacus has been upgraded to a speaking part as of episode 6 :-)
Someone posted the trailer for "The Warriors Way" (aka "Laundry Warrior") on YouTube. As it was leaked it was soon pulled (surprise surprise). All I can say is WOW. The visuals and fight scenes look really cool.
Dale Stewart ([COMPOUND] writer and director) has announced that the movie will be promoted at this years "Armageddon" Expo in Auckland during Labour Weekend. I'll certainly be making an appearance. More details here
The 36 hour mad dash 19/20 March 2009
It had to happen - there had to be a clash of schedules sometime and it happened here. First came the shoot for the surgery scene in [COMPOUND] out at Spookers. That kicked off around 7pm and didn't wrap till 2am. Luckily I had just enough time to go home and have a shower before heading out west to work on "Legend of the Seeker" and a 5am call time. We were wrapped about 5pm and from there it was back out to Spookers for the usual friday night scares. I'm not doing that again.
The Datsuns "So Long"
Shot at Spookers in January 2009. It was a long hot day but fun once they finally used me. Chad (aka "Nanny") stole the show here..........
The LTNZ "Risk it all" TV commercial
This ad was filmed mid April 2008 in Te Atatu at the intersection of Te Atatu , Totara and Tawa roads. Weather was dodgy for most of the shoot, we got rained in on several occasions and only just had enough light left to do the final car crash.
When I first saw the script for this I knew this ad was something different, but I never thought for a second it would creep people out like it does. The script called for an odd looking man with pasty skin wearing a black suit and to me it seemed to be a bizzare cross between a game show host and the grim reaper ;-)
Questions have been asked about the whispering at the end but I'm as much in the dark about this as anyone else. It's not my voice you're hearing nor did I know they were going to add that in post production. I do hear the words "It wasn't worth it" but I can't make much out after that.
Hopefully the ad's message well and truly gets across too. It certainly works for me.
The Warrior's Way
The best way of describing this movie is Samurai meets Western. It seems to me like a movie with everything but the kitchen sink, plenty of stunts, action, romance, some comedy in there too as well as a high body count. Our Asian warrior hero (played by Dong-Kun Jang) is forced into exile in a small town in the American Wild West. Here he hopes to live a quiet life working in the local laundry, however, the town is being constantly terrorised by a gang of outlaws and eventually he has no choice but to fight back.............
A major part of the town is the local circus. Here you find the usual assortment of clowns, performers, freaks and other oddball human attractions. Among them is me, the One Man Band. Not only am I fitted out with various musical instruments attached to every limb, I'm wearing an incredibly outrageous costume here. That's fine with me and I'm sure I made no secret of the fact to the costume people that I didn't care how ridiculous I looked. Yes it was heavy and uncomfortable at times, but I took it all in stride and I had some wonderful people around me who did a great job keeping me propped up between takes. Compared to previous (non acting) jobs, this was a picnic. After all, I'VE WORKED IN FAR WORSE CONDITIONS, DOING WORK I HATED FOR FAR LESS PAY FOR EMPLOYERS THAT I DIDN'T ####### LIKE!!!!!!
I must admit, even after 3 months on set I was still feeling like an awestruck kid. Kind of hard not to be when your first ever acting assignment is something of this magnitude. Release date? August 2009.
Life's a riot
This is a movie for TV about the life of Unemployed Workers leader Jim Edwards and set mostly during The Great Depression of the 1930s.
I spent two days at Avondale racecourse re-enacting a scene from 1932 in Central Auckland. A protest march led by Edwards turned into a riot after he was mistakingly thought to have been killed after being struck by a police baton. For much of the shoot we were either marching around or re-enacting the riots. Needless to say things got rather chaotic and at times resembled a mosh pit but thankfully there were no injuries and everyone was happy.
Funniest moment of the shoot was the jewellers store window that refused to break even after four attempts to smash it with a brick (reminded me of a certain scene from "The Young Ones"). The clincher came on the third attempt when the brick broke in two but the glass remained intact. Finally there was success accompanied by a loud ironic cheer when the cameras stopped rolling.
I should also add what a pleasure it was to work under a local legend like Ian Mune and the home made baking the ladies supplied was much appreciated too. I'm told this will screen on TV One in their Sunday night slot sometime around winter 2009.
