BC is here!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here's video from the opening day.
This one was taken a few days earlier. Spittle and Jim Blas (bowl designer and builder) get a preview run in the brand new pool.
I'm not exactly sure what the perfect skatepark is, but the world is full of potential candidates both now and in the past - and this yet another one. It's the best in NZ and on a par with anything in the world (disregarding those monstrosities in Shanghai & The Caymans of course).
The loss of Skatopia left a huge void that has never been filled, until now. I don't think I can give higher praise to a skatepark than that. The pool is everything we could ever dream of, it would have been enough on its own but then we have the flow bowl with a cradle as well. The street area seems to have plenty of everything too, with much more to come once final work is done on the surrounds. Our cup well and truly runs over, thank you to everyone involved from beginning to end.
I think there's much still to be said about this place so it probably deserves a page on its own. Watch this space.

The final concept design for the new skatepark at Barry Curtis Park has been released. The first stages of construction have also commenced.
No announcement yet on who is the main contractor. I hope they've made the right choice as this is going to make or break the whole thing. This an incredible design, if they pull it off it will be the best in NZ.

After 3 years I finally returned to the Whanga pool for a session on Saturday. Weather was perfect and things went well. Not quite the dizzy heights of previous years but things felt good and I was glad to make it out alive.

Finally returned to Lynfield today for the first time in weeks. What a mess, someone had bonfires going and in one area there was a large pool of what looked like melted plastic. The session got down to business eventually and things went pretty good.

The winter wet is upon us. Been managing to sneak in the odd session at Allenby but I haven't had a serious skate for weeks. The Whanga pool is a go again but it's all just a matter of me finding time between Spookers and Spartacus.

Happy New Year!!!
Had my final roll for the year yesterday at Lynfield on a stinking hot afternoon. It's been some months since I was there last and it took some getting used to again. I noticed there's a hole in the concrete right by the hip in the shallow end. Water was constantly seeping through due to the recent rain and needed to be toweled down every few minutes. It seems as though the water is actually starting to erode the concrete in places and I can't help but wonder what's going on underneath.

After a long absence I'm pleased to announce that Biomagonline is back. It's the same as it always was only different with a new look and some new stuff here and there. On this page you'll see session reports, opinion, updates on anything newsworthy and the occasional flashback to yesteryear. I'll be updating this page regularly so keep checking back.
Most recent session was Tuesday at Keri Downs. Arrived to find a nightmare with heaps of broken glass in both ends of the bowl and a shopping trolley as well. Not willing to give up an afternoon I knuckled down for an hour or so cleaning it up. Finally got down to business and things went well. Airs were good and I'll take that any day.
The end is nigh for Waiuku but I'm still not exactly sure when. It's a strange park and not a place you'd want to skate every day but many of us older skaters have a soft spot for its unique features and we'll miss the place when it goes. Here's some photos as a tribute. The first is me doing a backside boneless back in 1986 and the second is a shot from 2004 with (L-R) Allenby, myself, CB and Toneman in the bowl. The rest were taken yesterday of the park and surrounding earthworks.
